TUCSON, AZ (Jan. 25, 2022) – Patrick Chiasson, M.D., a board-certified and fellowship-trained bariatric surgeon with Northwest Healthcare’s Bariatric and
Foregut Surgery, is one of only a few doctors – and the sole bariatric surgeon in Arizona – now performing a brand-new procedure known as endoscopic
sleeve gastroplasty, or ESG, which was approved by the FDA last year.
This outpatient endoscopic procedure – commonly known as the “accordion procedure” – does not involve incisions or removal of any part of the stomach,
but does reduce its size. Most patients return to work within a few days – and experience permanent weight loss over time.
“After ESG, most patients permanently lose more than half of their excess weight,” says Dr. Chiasson. “They are much less likely to develop chronic
conditions related to obesity – and any conditions they do have are less likely to worsen. We are so excited to offer the new ESG technology to our patients
so we can help improve their quality of life and positively impact their future well-being.”
