The Town of Oro Valley invites the community to a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Conquistador Golf Irrigation Project and Tennis and Pickleball Court Reconstruction and Expansion Project on Wednesday, October 26, at 10 a.m. at the Oro Valley Community and Recreation Center (10555 N. La Cañada Drive). The projects are part of the Town’s Park Improvement Bond. For details about each project, see the “Bond Project Detail” section below.
There will be one ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the two projects. Guest speakers include Mayor Joe Winfield, Parks and Recreation Director Kristy Diaz-Trahan and Public Works Director and Town Engineer Paul Keesler. Following remarks from the guest speakers, Mayor and Council will cut the ribbon at the Tennis and Pickleball courts and then walk to the driving range for the Golf Irrigation ribbon cutting.
Event attendees will have the opportunity to enter a free drawing for one of three gift basket giveaways of their choosing: pickleball, golf or tennis. Must be present to win. Free commemorative Oro Valley stickers featuring the sport of your choice will also be available.

Bond Project Details
Oro Valley Town Council voted to approve bond financing for various Parks and Recreation improvements. This is not a voter-approved bond that adds property taxes to cover the repayment. Rather, the cost for repayment of these bonds is in included in the sales taxes the Town already collects. This bond, in conjunction with other funding sources, is being used to add amenities in Naranja Park, Oro Valley Community and Recreation Center and multiuse path improvements.
Conquistador Golf Irrigation – The complete irrigation pipe, controls, sprinkler distribution and communication wire systems have been replaced at the Conquistador Golf Course. Work began in May and finished in late September. This project is phase 1 of the golf irrigation projects. Phase 2 will replace the Cañada Golf Course irrigation next year.
Tennis and Pickleball Court Improvements – Four new pickleball courts were constructed. The existing asphalt pickleball and tennis courts have been replaced with a post-tension concrete surface. Post-tension concrete courts require less maintenance over the life of the court and have a longer overall life expectancy than asphalt courts. In addition, post-tension concrete courts improve playability. Additional shade structures and accessible walkways were constructed. Work began in May and will finish in early November. The courts will be open for play in mid-November.
