Lydia R. Otero is an award-winning author who will title the event named Annual LGBTQ + Author Talk
The Pima County Public Library LGBTQ + Services Committee with the Our Library Roots team presents A Conversation with Lydia R. Otero.
The free virtual event will be available on Saturday, October 16, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The conversation will be presented through GoToWebinar. Register for the event online and you will receive an email one day before the event date with information on how to connect to the program. The event is presented in the English language.
Lydia R. Otero discuss territories in Tucson, Arizona that have historically been contested. Lydia R. Otero wrote the books La Calle: Spatial Conflicts and Urban Renewal in a Southwestern City and In the Shadows of the Freeway: Growing Up Brown & Queer. Lydia R. Otero was born in Tucson and her upbringing and roots in the region bordering Arizona and Sonora have been the inspiration for her interest in regional history.
Lydia R. Otero has been awarded and received professional distinctions on several occasions including distinguished conferred at the Organization of American Historians (OAH) in the year 2021. In January 2020, the Mayor of Tucson and Ward One City Councilperson Lane Santa Cruz appointed Lydia R. Otero with the title of Historian for the Tucson-Pima County Historical Commission. A term that will last four years. In 2019, Lydia R. Otero was awarded the Dolores Huerta Legacy Award by César E. Chávez Holiday Coalition, recognizing activism and schooling, focusing on knowledge of Mexican American history as well as regional history.
