Give a Decomp Dog a chance!
Don't know about Pima Animal Care Center's Decompression Program? The Decompression Program at PACC is a volunteer team that builds trust and confidence in shy and fearful dogs that are not yet ready for adoption. These are the dogs that are extremely anxious and fearful when they get to the shelter, hiding under the bed, unwilling to walk, or acting fierce, hoping the scary person will go away. Prior to the start of the Decompression Program, these dogs were often euthanized. Since its inception in 2015, more than 1,800 dogs have gone through Decomp and on to successful adoptions.
Volunteers work in teams and match their approach to each dog's needs with a focus on social skills that will make them adoptable. They work on relaxed, enjoyable walking and help the dogs learn to accept and even enjoy touch and handling. The goal in each case is a confident dog, able to enjoy a walk and interact with humans.
We have several Decomp Grads currently available for adoption. As you can see, previous Decomp dogs like Magnolia (pictured) can make wonderful companions in a loving and patient home Learn more about her here: https://petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=PIMA.A785006
