Marana PD Communications Center Gets a Makeover

The Marana Police Department has a new state-of-the-art Communications Center, and its public safety dispatchers are thrilled with the remodel.

“I love it. I’m absolutely in love with it. It’s open, it’s bright, it’s homey. It’s home,” said E911 Communications Dispatcher Patty Spencer with the Marana Police Department.

“Everything that the public is going through, we’re going through with them before officers even get there,” said Spencer. Spencer started working as a dispatcher in 1980 with KORD’S ambulance and has spent more than a decade of her career with the Town of Marana.

The new Communications Center enables the dispatchers to continue providing the best service possible to the community.

“It’s always been my goal to help people…when I couldn’t physically be there…so this is a career choice for me, it’s a career path for a lot of people,” said Spencer.

Prior to the renovations, the furniture and equipment in the Communications Center were outdated and in need of an update. Thanks to the Town Council and Town management, the funds were approved and the remodel began on May 23 of this year.

Spencer believes the updated center will help her and her colleagues continue to provide excellent service to the community.

“Every day, technology is changing, and if we don’t change with it, we can’t provide the customer service that we need to provide, so by upgrading our technology and upgrading our environment, we’re doing a better job for our public,” said Spencer.

After five weeks of construction, the department unveiled a brand-new center that supports our public safety dispatchers with an effective workspace to provide the highest level of service.

"Our center has needed this for a long time,” said Communications Supervisors Stefanie Farmer and Tony Olivito. “We are extremely thankful for everyone that came together to make this happen…. Being a part of not only a Police Department but a Town that supports and values its 911 dispatchers truly means a lot…. This center represents how important each and every one of our dispatchers is, not just to the Police Department, but to the Town of Marana.”
