Artist Statement
In creating art, my goal is to inspire viewers, to make them think, while bringing joy and an appreciation of the
world around us. Whether the work be an illustration, fine art or combination - I want each person to come back over and over to see something more, spark a new thought or view things from a different perspective.
I love making images that tell a unique story to each person, based on how their own personal experiences connect with my artwork.
My choice of medium varies from digital to traditional acrylic paint. At times I also use pastel, watercolor, graphite and varnishes. Working with a waterbased medium allows for a quicker progression when adding, moving and removing paint. Compiling brushstrokes and layers, using opaque and transparent areas, and juxtaposing small and large marks build the complexity and intricate components of my paintings. Working digitally can be most helpful when working on tight deadlines. As with paint, I will use many layers on computer artwork – sometimes hundreds of layers. And, when edits are requested, digital work is much easier to adjust than traditional work.
