Back in 2020, Arizona became the 15th state to legalize recreational use of marijuana, allowing adults to possess, use and grow it. Now, Pima County is considering amending its zoning code so that it aligns better with state law as well as the City of Tucson’s regulations.
The current code strictly regulates where marijuana dispensaries and cultivation sites can be located, including how far away they have to be from other buildings. The proposed changes would make it much easier for these dispensaries and sites to open and operate in commercial, industrial and rural areas.
Pima County is releasing the text of its proposed amendments to the zoning code for the public’s input. If the changes are well received, they will be presented to the Planning and Zoning Commission and then the Board of Supervisors for approval.
If you are a resident or a property owner who would be affected by these changes, we want to hear from you! Please email your feedback to Chris Poirier at chris.poirier@pima.gov. You can read the proposed code changes here: https://webcms.pima.gov/cms/One.aspx?portalId=169...
