The City of Tucson is currently recruiting for the newly created positions of wage/revenue investigator, wage/tax auditor, and wage/finance manager. These positions will add staff to the Labor Standards Unit at the City of Tucson, which was created to fulfill the requirements of the voter-approved Tucson Minimum Wage Act. The new unit's purpose is to receive complaints from aggrieved individuals and interested parties, initiate investigations of employers and hiring entities, initiate enforcement actions, periodically conduct studies of the City’s low-wage workers for the purpose of guiding the department’s targeted enforcement efforts, educate employers of their obligations, and educate employees of their rights. The Tucson Minimum Wage Act establishes a local minimum hourly wage of $13, which took effect April 1, 2022, increasing to $15 an hour by Jan. 1, 2025. Thereafter, it will increase annually based on the rate of inflation and rise automatically to match any higher federal or state minimum wage. Additionally, the Act includes components that protect employees from wage theft and misclassification.
