Twenty-four Tiger students had an amazing leadership opportunity on March 24, when they met U.S. Air Force Brigadier General Choquette, who spoke with them about building their leadership capacity.
“This is a unique opportunity for us,” said Mrs. Merri Kae Vanderploeg, MHS college and career counselor. “Of the many high schools representing Tucson, we were selected for this visit because our community strongly supports the military. The General wanted to meet with high school students who demonstrate an interest in giving back to their country and community.”
Brig Gen Choquette came from a middle-class family residing in rural Colorado, very similar to Marana. He emphasized how experiences in high school can provide students with numerous opportunities to serve their community and country. He shared how his life choices, family, and teachers helped him land in the U.S. Air Force. Finally, he spoke about his combat missions, and how many of his accomplishments were due to the people around him; teamwork is key.
Thank you, Brig Gen Choquette for the leadership presentation, and to our students who took advantage of this opportunity!
