Pima County issued the following announcement on Feb. 24.
Throwing back to an aerial image from 1979. The photo centers primarily on the neighborhoods surrounding Groves Park with the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base's boneyards to the left and bottom of the frame.
What you might find interesting, though, is how Kolb Road, running north and south between the boneyard and the neighborhoods, ends at Irvington Road.
In fact, it wasn't until the early 1980s that Kolb was finally connected through Davis-Monthan south to Interstate 10, providing eastsiders an additional route to the highway and places like Tucson International Airport.
