Town of Oro Valley issued the following annoucement on Feb. 16.
WHEREAS, Arizona is home to more than 120,000 residents with developmental disabilities; and approximately 60,000 children in Arizona have a developmental disability; and
WHEREAS, people with developmental disabilities seek to achieve personal success through education, meaningful work and family and community ties with the support of community members working towards removing barriers for them to achieve this goal; and
WHEREAS, Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month recognizes the diverse contributions, capacity and value of Arizonans with developmental disabilities in schools, workplaces, houses of worship, halls of government and throughout all aspects of community life; and
WHEREAS, celebrating the abilities and contributions of people with developmental disabilities can enrich our community, enhance our diversity, and strengthen our town.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joseph C. Winfield, Mayor of Oro Valley, do hereby proclaim March, 2022 as
DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AWARENESS MONTH
in the Town of Oro Valley and encourage our citizens to join in this worthy observance.
