Education

Marana Unified School District issued the following announcement on Jan. 15.

Staff Professional Development Day was hosted on January 14 District-wide, providing an opportunity for Marana school teachers and staff to focus on areas that will enhance student learning while contributing to teachers' professional development. Each school tailored topics to their school community:

  • Dove Mountain CTEM K-8 staff learned more about the amazing CSTEM tools they have on campus and planned for ways to include these tools in daily teaching.
  • Career and Technical Ed (CTE) high school teachers explored strategies to ensure students complete professional programs demonstrating skills competency, subject knowledge, confidence, and professionalism.
  • Twin Peaks K-8 teachers learned about accountable talk in the classroom.
  • Marana High School physical education Professional Learning Community collaborated with administrators on new health opportunities for students.
  • Estes Elementary participated in the Scholastic “Book Hook” training. Staff explored word study strategies and the importance of looking at word parts and words as “anchors” that grow readers.
  • Quail Run Elementary utilized assessment data to understand students’ academic needs and areas of success.
  • Tortolita Middle School teachers worked on common summative and formative assessments as part of their commitment to build and sustain a data-driven culture, developed “I Can” statements, and shared ways to engage students in upcoming units.
  • Marana Middle School reviewed their Integrated Action Plan, which guides teachers in improving student achievement, followed by discussions on how to support English Language learners, the importance of productive group work, and guidance to create class environments that promote participation.

Some schools had to remain flexible and meet virtually– but they still showed up ready to learn! Our staff dug deep across schools, and we thank our exceptional teachers for their continued commitment to lifelong learning and growth!
