Town of Marana issued the following announcement on Nov. 10.
Wayne Barnett, Deputy Director for the Marana Parks & Recreation Department, has been elected to President of the Arizona Parks & Recreation Association (APRA). This position is a three year term beginning January 2022 as Vice President, 2023 President Elect, and 2024 APRA President.
Barnett has been a member of the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association for more than 30 years, two of which with the Town of Marana. As a young professional, he was very active on the local level of the former APRA Leisure Benefits Branch, serving in multiple leadership positions. He eventually served terms on the State Board as Treasurer and Secretary.
“APRA provides great professional development and networking opportunities for Recreation professionals throughout the state, and played an important role in my development as a leader,” said Barnett, “I’m excited to be able to serve the membership over the next three years, and look forward to giving back to this organization.”
APRA is the State Professional Association for all Parks & Recreation Departments in Arizona. Barnett was elected into this leadership position by fellow Parks & Recreation professionals within APRA, a testament to his relationship with his colleagues from throughout the state.
APRA provides trainings, annual state educational conferences, trade shows, and a variety of networking opportunities for Parks & Recreation professionals in the state of Arizona.
