Artwork Exhibit ~ Jane E. Leonard on October 6, 2021

Gallery

Oro Valley Public Library recently issued the following announcement.

Date: Wednesday, October 6, 2021

Description:

Artist Statement

Making art is a means of well-being. When creative energy builds up, it's a pleasure to slowly release the steam and make an artwork. It's a means of escape from concerns; it offers time alone; a scary dive into a vacuum where a unique and personal image may emerge; a world where rules can be safely broken and the critical monkey on the shoulder can be vanquished. And above all, it's fun!

The work in this exhibit gives the viewer an insight into my greatest concerns: our threatened environment, the beauty of it; oppressed people and the on-going loss of animal species, particularly, birds.

Materials in these works include oil and acrylic paint, acrylic mixed with wax, found objects, such as, debris from the palm tree, dried grass, dried pasta, colorful pages of magazines, cardboard, etc. The intention of the artist is to encourage the viewer to use what is readily available and inexpensive.

The favored tool in this exhibit is the palette knife. Paint is also easily squeezed directly from the tube. Cleanup is quick and easy.

Sharing is a pleasure, and more importantly, I hope you, the viewer, are inspired to create, too.
