The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many workers all over Arizona and the country to work from home, but most Pima County employees still report to the office.

Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry said that 90% of the county’s workforce are still going to work every day, with 70% of the personnel considered essential.

In the county seat of Tucson, the city government instructed many of its employees to work remotely if possible.

The county recently implemented a new telecommuting option for certain employees affected by the ongoing crisis. To qualify for the program, county employees must possess the necessary technology to allow them to work from home, be older than 65 years old or have a compromising medical condition, have a child who attends a school ordered to close or have a household family member who has a higher chance of contracting COVID-19.

Any employee who meets at least one of the criteria can apply for telecommuting for no more than a month.
