Marana recently declared a local state of emergency in reaction to the coronavirus crisis. After the emergency was declared, Mayor Ed Honea imposed a second amendment that will be run in conjunction with the Pima County emergency declaration, which was passed on March 19.

The emergency declaration orders all restaurants and bars to close dine-in eating through Tuesday, March 31. However, takeout and delivery services will be allowed.

Hornea also declared that all government buildings will be off-limits to the public in a news release sent out on March 21. Hornea says that the Marana courts and the Marana Police Department will be the only government buildings open to the public through Friday, April 10.

In a statement about the amendment, Honea said that the move was for the safety and well-being of the entire community. He also says that these are challenging times for everyone.

“The safety and well-being of our entire community are of the utmost priority and concern for the town of Marana,” Honea said. “These will be challenging times for everyone, but if we work together to follow these recommended actions to reduce the spread of the virus, we can ensure a brighter future for everyone.”
