Isabella’s Ice Cream, the iconic mom-and-pop enterprise got its start in 2010, however, the owners have said they are filing for bankruptcy.

Kristel Johnson, who started the business with her husband, Dominic, said it is unfortunate that the company had to file articles of termination. She said there has been a lot of tears over the decision.

“Unfortunately, we filed articles of termination with the state and the business will be filing bankruptcy,” Johnson told Tucson.com. “It’s been a lot of tears over the last few months."

The decision came after the Johnsons lost a $30,000 lawsuit filed by the Gadsden Co. The signatures on the lawsuit are of the owners of the Gadsden Co.

Isabella’s Investor, Adam Weinstein said the decision is "very unfortunate."

“It’s very, very unfortunate that that’s what it came to,” Weinstein told Tucson.com, who said his family chose to invest in Isabella's Ice Cream when the Johnsons rented storefront space at the Mercado.
