Pima County issued the following announcement on Feb. 24
Four miles of trails will be officially dedicated at a Feb. 29 ceremony led by the Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Department and Supervisor Richard Elías, chairman of the Pima County Board of Supervisors. All are welcome.
The dedication of the Painted Hills Trails Park, 3590 W. Anklam Road, begins at 9 a.m. The 289-acre park features four miles of trails open for hiking, biking, horseback riding, running or dog walking. The property was purchased in 2014 with voter-approved Pima County bond funds and an environmental fee paid by guests visiting the JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort.
Joining Supervisor Elías in speaking at the event are Sue Clark, president of Pima Trails Association; Gayle Hartmann, a local archaeologist and conservationist; Neil Stitzer, trails coordinator with NRPR; and Bruce Gungle, a local resident and park user.
“Dedicating these multi-use trails in Painted Hills Park is cause for great celebration as it is the culmination of many years of Pima County and City of Tucson work, and expense, to protect this special and beautiful place from destructive residential development,” Elías said.
Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation operates and maintains 46 parks, 23 trailheads, 13 community centers, The Chuck Huckelberry Loop and hundreds of miles of trails for recreational pleasure and manages over 250,000 acres of conservation lands open to outdoor recreation pursuits.
