District 11 lawmakers celebrated the opening of the University of Arizona's College of Veterinary Medicine in a press release issued Nov. 13.
The press release emphasized the role legislators played in assisting the school with accreditation for a large animal clinic.
“We have been champions for the school in the Arizona Legislature, in the private sector, and even at the federal level, calling on Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to assist with moving the application for accreditation through the AVMA process,” said state Rep. Mark Finchem, R-Pima. “This day has been a long time coming, and it ushers in a new, dynamic way to train doctors of veterinary medicine.”
The school's proximity to rural communities with high large animal populations makes it an important area for the university, according to lawmakers.
